This fund was established to support the Oak Bay Rural Cemetery. When they sold the Emerson family farm in 2021, fifth-generation owners Janet Emerson and Ardeth Emerson Holmes decided to donate some of the proceeds to ensure that the cemetery, where their family has been buried since 1885, continues to have their contribution for perpetual care. The 322 acre farm on Route 127 in Greenock NB was established by William H. Emerson and his wife Anna B. Reid in 1866. The first burial at the cemetery, in 1885, was their daughter Alfretta, aged 20. Janet and Ardeth’s parents, Murchie and Marjorie (Thornton) Emerson along with their two brothers are buried at the top of the hill overlooking the original Emerson plot. “A cemetery is a place of reflection, remembering all those who have gone before us. For some a cemetery is the only connection to one’s ancestors. Our perpetual care fund honours the eternal memory of those who have gone before us.” Janet & Ardeth
